Mavs Kill the Lakers; Bynum Shows no Remorse; Jackson Confirms Retirement
May 9, 2011Having swept the Lakers and winning six in a row, Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks are headed for the NBA’s Western Conference finals.
Jason Terry tied an NBA postseason record with nine 3-pointers and the Mavericks matched a league playoff mark with 20 3s on their way to a 122-86 victory over the Lakers on Sunday.
Phil Jackson, the most successful coach in NBA history, walked off the court (with a smile) for what is likely to be his final time coaching.
Matt Barnes bragged that the Lakers would not follow San Antonio out the early exit door in these playoffs, yet the top three scorers for the afternoon were sitting on the Mavericks’ bench to start off and all Barnes could say was
“They beat the s—- out …,” Barnes said before stopping himself. “They beat us bad.”
Barnes wasn’t as much sore looser as these next two.
Laker stars Andrew Bynumand Lamar Odom watched the final eight minutes of a 122-86 loss in the visitor’s locker room at the American Airlines Center.
Odom’s ejection came after he blindsided Dirk on a screen. Bynum quickly followed with a nasty forearm hit to the chest of a defenseless J.J. Barea, who was gliding through the air on a layup… and still made the shot!!
“I’m not disappointed in myself. It is what it is. We got embarrassed tonight, so that’s what happened,” said a unremorseful Bynum.
“They were breaking us down, so I just fouled somebody,” Bynum added.
“You don’t want to see that,” Bryant added. “You don’t want any of their players getting hurt.”
“All of my hopes and aspirations are that this is the final game that I will coach,” Phil Jackson told reporters.

nowitzski signs petition for paternity test
July 25, 2009

A Dallas family court judge has ordered a paternity test to be administered in the case involving Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki and his ex-fiance Cristal Taylor.
“We know the first one has to happen,” said Associate Judge Randall Grubbs this morning during a brief hearing in a Dallas County court. “The other one may be moot.”
In a petition filed last month, Nowitzki will seek full custody of the yet-to-be- born child, if he is indeed the father.
The proceedings of the order have been sealed and attorneys are unable to speak on the case.
Taylor told the Dallas Morning News in late May she was “very pregnant, about maybe four to 41/2 weeks.”
She was arrested on May 6 a Nowitzki’s home and has remained in a Jefferson County Correctional Facility where she faces charges of theft and probation violation.
Her trial is set for July 27.
